Austrian Mediation Act (Zivilrechts-Mediations-Gesetz) was enacted in 2003, 12 (twelve) years before the Brazilian Mediation Act (2015), with the purpose of regulating mediation in civil matters. The Austrian Mediation Act approaches essential issues in the field of mediation in civil cases, such as the definition of a mediator, his or her preparation to become one and, most importantly, the rights and duties of the mediators duly registered with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Justice.
